Describe an old friend that you got in contact again

You should say:

Who he or she is
What he or she is like
How you got in contact
And explain how you felt about it

Well, people quickly lose their contact with friends, especially school and college friends, in today’s fast-paced urban life. I also pass through this situation. I lose many friends’ contacts, and it is happening because I am sort of tied up with all the work and other stuff in life. Here I would talk about one of my best friends from middle school. We were in the same school for three years and we were in the same city for six years. I still remember that we were always together. She always had a sense of humor and I would laugh at every joke she told. Then, after high school, we went to different cities to attend college. And a year later, her entire family moved to that city. At freshmen year, we were still making phone calls and texting messages. Then we drifted apart in our sophomore year. I still don’t understand why did that happen. Now that I think about it, it’s probably because we were all busy participating clubs and taking courses at that time. We lost contact for almost two years. I guess we all met some new friends. During the senior year, one day it suddenly occurred to me that November 6th is her birthday. So, I sent her a message wishing her a happy birthday. She was surprised and touched. We talked a whole afternoon that day. We were trying to fill each other in. And we recalled our old days and memories. I was over the moon. After graduation, we went back to our hometown and we met each other, just like the old times. Now I still thank god for sending my best friend back to my life.

闪光表达:

fast-paced urban life 快节奏的都市生活
be tied up with 被捆绑住,很忙
a sense of humor 幽默感
drift apart 疏离
over the moon 欣喜若狂

1. What is the influence of social media on friendship?

Social media allows people to connect in ways that wouldn’t otherwise be possible, and can often enlarge people’s social circles. For example, in your daily routine, you might not interact with many people who share a life circumstance with you, or are dealing with specific challenges, like moving to a new country or dealing with annoying co-workers. On social media, you can connect with those people in similar situations and share worries, fears, and celebrations. However, social media has taken over our lives. We keep our heads down, eyes glued to our phones, afraid if we don’t, we’ll miss out. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat have forever reshaped the way we relate to one another.

2. Why do people lose contact with their friends after graduation?

I think it’s mainly because people go to different cities after graduation. People start their own lives with a new job and new friends. Maybe a few months after graduation, people still talk to each other on social media, but later they’ll just gradually lose contact with friends who’s in a different city. Because they hardly can see each anymore. It’s not that these bonds are no longer important, it’s just that things shift. People change and that means the relationships between them have to change too.

3. Do people in your country like to make new friends?

I think it depends. People are individuals, some people just like to jump in new circles and others prefer to stick with their old friends. Like me, I’m kind of living in a click. I’d rather talking and sharing with my old pals than socializing with people I’ve just met. And it seems hard to make true friends out of schools. I know it’s wrong to think like this. It’s comfortable to be with people who are similar and familiar, but what if I need some new ideas and resources, this is when I really pay a price for living in a small circle. Especially, social networks are more active and influential than ever before.

4. Do you think old friends are more important to the old generation or the young generation?

I think it’s important to both generations. It’s not like that people will change their thoughts on this kind of thing. No matter what, old friends are always important in a person’s life. Not only because you guys experienced and shared a period of time in life together, but also because old friends know your strengths and weakness to guide you better. They remind you of who you are and they’re often the people who are most likely to be truly honest with you. So it’s essential to cherish old friends and keep them in our lives.

闪光表达:

enlarge social circles 扩大社交圈
bonds = relationships 关系
live in a click = live in a small circle 生活在一个小圈子里
