翻开市面上的各种写作真题集,放眼望去大多是教育类话题。它们占据了历年托福独立写作的近半壁江山,是同学们在备考过程中需要着重准备的话题之一

有些同学可能会认为,教育话题离我们的实际生活是最为接近的,毕竟我们现在还都是正在“被教育”的一代人,但真正动笔写的时候才发现:我离你那么近,却又那么远。教育类题目五花八门,按照阶段分有小学、中学、大学,按照领域分又有学校生活、家庭生活和课外生活等,只依赖于平时学习生活的心得体会还真不一定能帮我们搞定题目,但是他们还是有一些共同点的。

今天,就让我们一起来学习如何在经历并不那么丰富的情况下破解这一类话题,积累一些常见的分观点,所谓“万金油”理由。

托福写作真题回顾

让我们首先回顾下考试中出现过的教育类题目:

Students should be encouraged to study fields like science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) rather than what they have interest in.

These days, children spend more time on doing homework or participating in organized activities related to school or sports. However, they should be given more time to do whatever they want.

If you are going to graduate from the university and have to choose the final course, which professor will you choose? The one you used to sign up for courses or the one you have never learned from before?

破题思路

大部分的教育类话题都围绕学生和儿童出题,考虑到这两类群体的特征,我们可以从以下几个方面思考观点:

1. 学习

教育类题目中,学生可能要做很多事情,比如选择专业、参加课外活动、小组讨论等。这些事情的宗旨极有可能和学习相关,例如:

improve efficiency

boost interest of study

acquire knowledge

improve academic performance

拿一道题举个🌰:

Students should be encouraged to study fields like science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) rather than what they have interest in.

这道题问的是学生选择理科课程好还是选择自己感兴趣的,如果我的立场是选择自己感兴趣的,那么我可以有如下观点:

learning subjects that students are interested in can help them gain more knowledge.学生可以获得更多的知识,因为学习自己喜欢的东西可以让他们沉浸其中(fully immerse themselves in the field they like);

或者我们还可以写学习自己感兴趣的可以有助于学习成绩的提高,因为兴趣是最好的老师(opting for the courses that greatly interest the students will drive them to achieve better academic performance.)

2. 技能

同样,除了学习上的好处,学生也可以通过参与各种活动、上不同的课、做兼职工作等get某个技能或培养能力,例如:

communication skills

social skills

cooperation

time management

prioritize decisions

independence

critical thinking

creativity

how to handle failure

拿一道题举个🌰:

Students in a university club want to help others, but they can only choose one project a year, which one of the following is the best?

– help those students in a nearby primary school with reading and mathematics;

– help people who cannot afford to build or rent a home to build a house;

– visit and assist elderly people with daily tasks.

如我选择辅导小学生的功课,我的观点可以是帮助小学生可以我develop teaching skills,因为在辅导的过程中,我可能需要:花费几个小时的时间设计课堂(save a couple of hours per week to prepare for any practical activities I plan to carry out with my students in the coming days)或者帮助学生解决他们不懂的问题(talk with students about any concepts they didn’t quite grasp.);

同样,我们也可以从学习的角度思考观点,比如辅导小学生可以增加知识(Increase Knowledge)传播知识同样也扩大自己知识面(spreading knowledge increases the scale of knowledge. )它也可以被认为是一种对过去已有知识的一种修订。(It can be considered as a type of revision .)同时也对所辅导的学科有了更强的把握(also get a strong command on subjects)。

3. 品质

教育类话题中,经常会提到的还有品质。毕竟现在的学校不仅重视成绩,还致力培养学生正确的三观及优良品质(focus on quality-oriented education),例如:

helpful

patience

persistence

confidence

honesty

self-discipline

keep your promises

stay teachable

拿一道题举个🌰:

A university is considering requiring students to take public speaking class, no matter what field they study.

假设我同意题目中的观点,理由是public speaking can significantly boost students’confidence.

第一点:演讲过程需要克服恐惧(Overcoming the fears and insecurities that accompany public speaking is empowering. )

第二点:与听众的联系可以提醒你,你的声音并不是无足轻重(connecting with audiences can be a strong reminder that you have valuable insights and opinions to share with the world.)

4. 发展

一些教育类话题的观点可以延伸到学生的未来发展上,比如选择专业、学校提供就业指导、 玩电子游戏等。

career development

physical development

mental development

character development

拿一道题举个🌰:

Students should be encouraged to study fields like science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) rather than what they have interest in.

如果我的立场为学习STEM更好,因为可以让学生更容易找到工作(Having a background in a STEM gives students a competitive advantage when applying for jobs. );

或者我也可以从技能角度出发,学习STEM可以提高解决问题的能力(problem-solving)By engaging in STEM learn experiences, students learn how to examine problems and then create a plan to solve them.
