首先我们读题，可以得到大致的印象如下：
那部电影的ponderousness被主演所交出的抓人的表演_________了。
首先，我们大致判断出gripping performance应该是褒义，而ponderous如果也是褒义，那么空里就该填入带有正向含义或者说至少不带有负向意思的动词，比如heightened和symbolized。到这一步，我们必须隐约判断出ponderousness是一个贬义词，然后就可以选出正确选项mitigated和relieved。
这道题中需要同学们重点识记的几个单词是：
mitigate vt.使缓和；减轻（危害等）
to make something less harmful, unpleasant, or bad

exacerbate vt. 使恶化；使加重；使加剧

gripping adj. 引人入胜的，扣人心弦的，激动人心的
so interesting or exciting that it holds your attention completely.
💡例句：
I found the book so gripping that I couldn't put it down.
我觉得这本书太吸引人了，一看就难以释手。
