My participation in the school Art Festival brought me one of the best prizes in my life and I am going to tell you about this event and the award I won. The competition was held in my high school, ages ago. The Art Festival was arranged to help students cultivate their interests and talents.

I went into the competition with no expectation of winning. I just wanted to have some fun. I recruited like 10 classmates to do a stage acting about Cinderella, in English version. I was the director and the narrator. And back then I had trouble finding the leading actress. You know, Cinderella, the soul of the show. My priority was my best friend who was in the same class as me. But she was a little introverted and couldn’t go on a stage. I encouraged her a dozen times. I said that she would be perfect for Cinderella, cause she was always into those Disney movies and characters. Eventually, she got persuaded and she was kind of doing it for me. Then, we practiced and had a bunch of rehearsals for almost two weeks. The time was pretty limited since we had classes in a row every single day. The only time we had was in the mornings, before classes. At that time, I felt I was just lucky to have all these people to work as a team. So we won the first prize in the end. When our principal awarded that prize, it was a very emotional moment and then I realized that if you decide something and work hard towards it, you are going to achieve anything that you desire. I also got the meaning of teamwork which is an essential skill throughout the entire life.

1. What kind of prizes do students get?

The first prize that comes to my mind is scholarship. This type of prize is an amount paid to aid an individual in paying for his study, training, or research. Another one is academic award which is given at many schools for special achievement in areas such as art, poetry, music, language, political science and social work. Bright students may also compete for national awards. And also, outstanding student athletes are recognized in a variety of ways including scholarships, trophies and medals.

2. Should students get the same prize in sports and academics?

Yes, I think they should. Most of the schools pay more attention to the academic area and they set up a bunch of academic rewards. But sport rewards are also important to students. Playing sports provides crucial benefits for students ranging from improvement in fitness and health to development of team spirit and feelings of accomplishment. Not to mention that sports will improve self-confidence.

3. Why should people be awarded?

Rewards motivate people, for instance, if a social worker receives an award for an outstanding performance in the outreach program, other social workers will strive to do better also, so that they can be recognized. Being rewarded for doing well is one of the biggest incentives anyone can receive. Besides, an awards ceremony or activity is a chance for celebration and reflection. People will get a break and a party, getting their minds away from everyday work. At the same time, they will have the chance to discuss the achievement of the person being awarded. Gathering and sharing experiences is a very powerful means of encouragement.

4. Are awards always good for the winners?

Yeah, I think awards are always good for the winners. Cause it keeps pushing people to a new level. Like Cristiano Ronaldo, he was not as gifted as Messi at the beginning. But throughout his entire career, he never stops training for one day, because he wants to win the champions of each season and the Champion’s league match. He’s very competitive on the field. That’s why he always leads the team to success. They all say that when the team is in trouble, it all depends on Cristiano Ronaldo. Awards have kept him at a high level for almost twenty years.
