2022年5-8月雅思口语 Part 1 Old buildings

1. Have you ever seen some old buildings in the city?

示范音频👇

I live in Beijing and there’s a ton of old, historic buildings in the city. The most famous ones are The Forbidden City where the emperors of the Qing Dynasty lived, And the Summer Palace, an exquisitely designed and built imperial garden. Most of these historic building are well-preserved. I think these buildings give the city character and a rich heritage. I mean, Beijing is really a city where the old meets the new and these two elements are successfully blended.

2. Do you think we should keep old buildings in cities?

示范音频👇

We definitely should. Old buildings first of all have aesthetic value, they are often made with unique valuable materials, they may have features that you can’t find anymore like decorative facades, unusual glasswork, or copper lining. They represent some of the highest achievements we have in art and architecture. They add a pinch of much needed artistic contrast in an otherwise boring concrete jungle. Older buildings also bring economic benefits, they attract tourists who spend money, jobs are created as tourism develops.

3. Do you prefer living in an old building or a modern house?

示范音频👇

As charming as old buildings are, I’d prefer to live in a modern house. Well, rent is my first concern, I mean, old doesn’t exactly mean cheap, you often have to pay extra for that historic feel. This is often the case in cities like Shanghai. At the same time you have to put up with squeaky stairs, the paint peeling off the walls, and not having modern facilities like an elevator. I mean, you get the experience but there are tradeoffs. I know some people really have a thing for old buildings, but me? not a fan.

4. Are there any old buildings you want to see in the future? Why?

示范音频👇

A couple of years ago I took a trip to the UK and I visited the Westminster Abbey, the beauty of its architecture and what I saw inside blew my mind. I don’t think I have the words to describe this royal church. I just feel like it’s an architectural masterpiece. The wall paintings, the sculptures, the tombs and chambers, the cloisters, everything is nothing short of wonder. It was a shame that I had just about 2 hours to visit, we had a really busy schedule. I’d definitely want go back and visit again, and I plan to stay for a whole day.

2022年5-8月雅思口语 Part 1 TV programs

1. What kinds of TV programs do you often watch?

示范音频👇

Well, I don’t watch TV that much, I feel like I’m always on my laptop. But when I do watch TV, I usually watch nature programs, BBC documentaries and stuff. I’m a nature lover, I love learning about planet earth and the flora and fauna on it. Another reason is that I’m an avid shutter bug, when I’m watching, like the Blue Planet, one of BBC’s most popular nature documentaries, the photography just amazes me, takes my breath away. It’s just so much visual delight for me.

2. Do you think kids are watching too much television?

示范音频👇

Yeah, I think so. I mean, today’s kids are born in the age of screens, excess TV viewing is definitely a widespread problem. Kids don’t have much self control, when left to their own devices, they’d watch TV all day long. With Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, the variety of television programming and instant streaming is basically limitless. It’s all too common to see kids throw tantrums when parents limit their TV time. And I think TV also takes away kids’ time from other activities, such as sleeping, exercising, playing with friends, and doing homework.

3. What are the impacts of watching TV programs on children?

示范音频👇

There are far too many TV programs that have a negative impact on Children. Consider reality shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, it’s a terrible show for young children to watch, they will be exposed to binge drinking, stripper poles and rampant materialism. It also leads kids to believe that they can easily succeed and rake in millions if they look like one of the Kardashian sisters, it makes young girls focus solely on their looks instead of personality or hard work. Kim Kardashian herself won’t let her own kids watch the show.

4. What kinds of TV programs do you think should be broadcast more?

示范音频👇

I’m a big advocate for educational programs, like again BBC documentaries, so keep them coming. Both adults and children can learn so much about the world we live in, it also spurs children’s interest in nature, so some of them may pursue a career in science or in environmental protection in the future. Sports programs are also a good idea, they help people relax and release pressure after a long hard day at school or work, they give you good adrenaline rushes, most of all, they push people to go outside and play sports themselves.
