Taking photos
Do you like taking photos?
Yes. I’m actually a shutter bug myself and I love photographing beautiful landscapes. I especially love to take photos of the dawn and the dusk, those are the times you have the most magical light of the day, since photography is all about light. And I once went to this alpine lake in Tibet and camped there to shoot a starlit night sky and the milky way, it was breathtaking and I had a lot of amazing shots. I just feel lucky to use my DSLR camera to capture the beauty of nature.
Do you like taking selfies?
Sure, on my hikes in the mountains, I often take selfies, often with snow-capped peaks in the background, it’s my thing. It’s like saying, “Look at me, I have been here.” I have like an album of such selfies on my phone, I consider them my best memories. And when me and friends hang out, we’d usually take a selfie together, you know, so that everybody is in the frame.
What is your favorite family photo?
My favorite family photo was one I took with my wife and my parents-in-law when we traveled to Dali, a popular tourist destination in Yunnan that’s mostly famous for its lovely weather. In that selfie, we were basking in the morning sun, it was bright and warm, we were all smiling and happy. We were strolling in this succulent garden and we were all just excited to see the exotic plants there.
Do you want to improve your photography skills?
Well, I think I can say that I know one or two things about photography and when it comes photography skills, it’s never just about the technical aspects, like the aperture or shutter speed or focal length. These are of course fundamentals, but to shoot memorable photographs, it takes a discerning eye, being able to discover beauty in a mundane life and capture it. That’s a tricky one. And I would definitely want to improve that skill.
