很多同学在准备托福听力部分的时候,会遇到这样的问题:讲座基本可以听懂做对,但是对话反而经常错1-2道题,分数徘徊在 20-23上下,很难提高。

今天Emma老师和大家一起来分析下,为什么你的对话总是漏听细节,怎么才能做到全对呢?

托福听力例题

例题1

题目:

What is the professor’s opinion about Sills’s production of The Blue Light?

A. He thinks that it was an inventive and powerful performance.

B. He believes that the use of some props would have enhanced the performance.

C. He thinks that the theme is even more relevant today than it was in the 1960s.

D. He believes that it was less effective stylistically than some of Stephenson’s plays.

原文:

Student: But weren’t you…um, audiences…bothered that the actors were performing on a bare stage?

Professor: Well, story theatre is a departure from traditional dramatic theater…with its realistic, elaborate props and scenery. But Sills could make us “see”… say, a big, tall mountain…through the facial expressions and body movements of the actors—and their telling of the story. We were all swept up, energized by such an innovative approach to theater—even if one or two of the critics weren’t as enthusiastic.

解析:

很多同学看到这道题就会陷入沉思,教授什么时候表达opinion了?(怀疑人生…)。

正解:这里教授在介绍完Sills的艺术表达形式之后,提到:

We were all swept up, energized by such an innovative approach to theater—even if one or two of the critics weren’t as enthusiastic.

这里面swept up是形容词用法,表示沉醉。如果不认识,可以通过后面并列的energized去理解。以及后面innovative approach 和 even if one or two of the critics weren’t as enthusiastic 都可以感受到教授觉得Sill’s approach非常赞。因此,选A。

很多同学这里错题原因是:笔记太多,且都是零散单词,耽误听重点。在奋笔疾书地记前面信息的时候,错过了这句话。比如,有的同学的笔记就是这样的:

当你在记 big, tall mountain 和 body movements 的时候,注定会错过后面句子的主干部分We were all swept up, energized,造成整句漏听,那么即便是记了enthusiastic也看不懂。而之前记录的内容 big, tall mountain 和 body movements 只是Sills could make us “see”的小小列举,并不是很重要。

既然问题出现在了乱记笔记上,那么解决方法也很简单-就是放下笔,不要记或尽量少记。因为对话语速很快,考点密度高,一不留神就错过句子。并且和讲座相比,对话的逻辑太跳跃了,从A讲到B过度如此丝滑,一不留神就会跟丢。

正确听对话姿势:紧跟对话思路,理解内容间的联系。就好像串糖葫芦,用逻辑这根木签将所有的细节穿在一起,就不会漏掉或忘掉任何一个细节了。这就需要在平时练习的时候,增加“整理结构”这个环节。

托福听力如何整理文章结构?

拿这一小段举例:

主要内容:

学生提了一个问题 audience bothered by bare stage? 教授表示no,原因是Sills make us see by facial and body,教授对这个方法表达了自己的positive attitude。

结构图:

Q:audience bothered by bare stage?

A:x ∵ Sills make us see by facial and body

Attitude: +

从这个结构图我们可以看出,这段的主要结构是问题+答案。答案中包含了原因,原因是一个方法,方法之后接的针对这个方法的态度。

这样逻辑就非常清楚,只要想到这个问题,那么接下去的内容就自动回忆起来了,即便回忆不起来,我们看到选项 A. He thinks that it was an inventive and powerful performance. 也能记起来。

(划重点)结构图不是笔记,大家在第一遍听的时候尽量不要记笔记,以听为主。文章听完之后,要进行精听,明白每句话在说什么,再整理结构图。

题目:

What does the student imply about her current work at the circulation desk?

A. She already keeps track of the specific tasks she does.

原文:

Supervisor: So, right now you check out books for students, bond the returned books, and sort them by categories so the stock team could put them back on the shelves. Anything else?

Student: No, that’s about it.

Supervisor: Okay well, we’re expanding that job to have you do some other tasks too. So, going forward you’ll also help students locate books on the shelves, and put returned books in their proper places on the shelves.

Student: Oh, that would be good! There’re times that I sit at the desk just waiting for students to come by to check out or return books.

答案:

正确答案:B。

管理人员在介绍了新的工作职务之后,学生表示太好了(态度),有一些时间她只是坐在那里等待学生来借还书(态度的原因)。沿着这个思路就能听到题目的答案了。

结构图:

right now: check out + bond + sort

最后叮嘱大家在听对话的时候,尽量把自己带入到对话中,主要听听双方说了什么?为什么要这么说呢?放下笔,放松心态,对话就会变得 easy 很多啦。
